Glitch 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n When: <\/strong>Thursday June 19th<\/sup> 2014<\/p>\n Time: <\/strong>7:00pm<\/p>\n Admission:<\/strong> Free<\/p>\n Where: <\/strong>CTVR, Corner of Fenian Street & Westland Row<\/p>\n This D.A.T.A. features presentations from the artists featured in this years Glitch festival, curated by Nora O\u2019Murchu. <\/strong>Glitch at Rua Red is an annual festival that brings together leading media and technology artists, curators, researchers, and artist groups with audiences to explore emerging and established contemporary cultural and critical issues that\u00a0arise from artist\u2019s intersection and investigations with digital technology. This year Glitch focus on how artists are using new media to explore their position in relation to broader social and political systems. Taking on subjects such as privacy, love, work, art-production and aesthetics, the exhibition shows how criticism, humor and innovation are used to analyse and partly re-configure these issues.<\/p>\n The three featured artists, Addie Wagenknecht (USA), Fergal Brennan (IRL) and Breda Lynch (IRL) will present on their work in Glitch and their practices more generally.<\/p>\n Addie Wagenknecht<\/strong> is an American artist based in Austria, whose work explores the tension between forms of culture and technology. Wagenknecht is a member of the Free Art & Technology (F.A.T.) Lab and chairs the Open Hardware Summit at MIT. Her work has been exhibited internationally at Museumsquartier Vienna, The Istanbul Biennial, and Rua Red Dublin. She has been featured in press such as TIME Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair, The Economist, and The New York Times. She has a Masters degree from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University, and has previously held fellowships at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center in New York City, Culture Lab UK, Institute HyperWerk for Postindustrial Design, Basel (CH), and The Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University. She is represented by bitforms gallery in New York City.\u00a0placesiveneverbeen.com<\/a><\/p>\n Fergal Brennan <\/strong><\/a>works in time-based visual media. He incorporates traditional hand-drawn or stop-motion animation with the precision of modern digital film technology and programming. His practice focuses on the exploration of film and animation as a graphic language and communication tool, with all of the political, social and aesthetic implications that arise from it. mynameisfergal.com<\/a><\/p>\n Breda Lynch<\/strong> is a visual artist living and working in Limerick, Ireland. She received her BA Hons degree at the Crawford College of Art, Cork, MA from Chelsea College of Art, London and an MPhil from the University of Wolverhampton, England. She has mounted solo shows in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Breda Lynch has participated in-group shows in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Turkey, Thailand China and the USA. Most notably of these shows was the BEFF \u2013 Bangkok Experimental Film Festival 2008 and the Irish Pavilion at World Expo, Shanghai 2010. She has been a recipient of the Artists Bursary Award from the Arts Council of Ireland and a number of Limerick City Council Artist Bursary Awards and was a prize-winner at Iontas in 2007. \u2028She has curated art exhibitions, most notably \u2018Darkness Visible\u2019 with Ann Mulrooney at the Galway Arts Centre commissioned by the Galway Arts Festival in 2008, \u2018A Poem of Friendship\u2019 at Occupy Space, Limerick 2010, \u2018Excavate, \u2019commissioned by Cork Printmakers and Cork City Museum at Cork City Museum 2010 and \u2018Other Drawings\u2019 at Ormston House part of Creative Limerick scheme 2012.<\/p>\n
