DATA Workshop 9.0

Workshop: E-WASTE WORKSHOP 6.0: WHAT IF ORBITAL DEBRIS COULD BE RECYCLED?

Location: This workshop will be hosted by Science Gallery, Trinity College, Pearse Street, Dublin 2.

Cost: 30 EURO (for basic materials, etc.)

When: Saturday 14 November, 11.00-17.00

Instructors: Led by WHAT IF… FUTURE FORM, FUTURE FUNCTION? at Science Gallery.

Workshop Description: This workshop will offer to the participants to become familiar with basic hardware and software design/hacking while at the same time gaining hands-on experience making an (interactive) art project using Arduino, Max/MSP, Pure Data or Processing (depending on the project).

Definition: Space debris, also known as orbital debris, space junk and space waste, are objects in orbit around Earth created by humans that no longer serve any useful purpose. They consist of everything from entire spent rocket stages and defunct satellites, to explosion fragments, paint flakes, slag from solid rocket motors, coolant released by RORSAT nuclear powered satellites, deliberate insertion of small needles, and many other objects. As orbits often overlap, debris is a potential collision risk for spacecraft. (Source Wikipedia).

This will be the starting point of this workshop where participants will be invited to imagine made made of recycled electronic waste.

No electronics or programming skills required. Participants should however bring their own laptops (Windows, Mac OS X). Workshop open to ALL. Places are limited.
